Lift Up Every Baby Event on Sat Aug 27th at 11am

August 27, 2016

WHO: The African American Breastfeeding Network (AABN), along with other community partners, hosts the first annual Lift Up Every Baby (LUEB) event, a community gathering to celebrate new life, health, wellness and breastfeeding promotion.

WHAT: Families and community partners are invited to this celebratory ceremony, which begins with libation (honoring of young children and babies who have died) and burning of sage (cleansing of space and healing our community) and culminates at noon (12:00pm) when babies are ‘lifted’ by their parents (and the community) in support of good health and breastfeeding; pregnant mothers are embraced by community members.

WHEN: 11AM-2PM Saturday, August 27

WHY: Lift Up Every Baby targets women, men, children, and extended support systems/families who have historically been impacted most significantly by racial inequities in health outcomes by (1) introducing socially and culturally relevant role models from the community (2) sharing community resources that can support women and families, (3) reclaiming health traditions through culturally relevant rituals and celebrations, and (4) celebrating resiliency.  It is a culminating event in honor of  National Black Breastfeeding Awareness Week (August 22-27) – which parallels National Breastfeeding Awareness Month.

WHERE: Carver Park,911 W Brown Street
