Tour the Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., with the Friends. Free tours begin at 11 a.m. each Saturday afternoon in the rotunda. Tour goers receive a coupon for a free book at the end of the tour in the Bookseller Store and Café. To arrange for a special tour call (414) 286-TOUR.

Florentine Opera Company Sister Carrie Book Club
In anticipation of the world premiere of a new American opera, Sister Carrie, join the Florentine Opera
Company in an exploration of the groundbreaking Theodore Dreiser novel of the same name at Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., Monday, August 29, 6-7 p.m. Sister Carrie follows Carrie Meeber, a young woman from rural Wisconsin on the eve of the 20th century as she migrates to the big city and ultimately becomes a Broadway star. Sessions include visits from Florentine Opera Company guests and exclusive previews from the opera! Please register in advance.
Art Night: Joseph Cornell Shadowboxes
Make your own personal shadowbox diorama at the East Branch, 2320 N. Cramer St., Tuesday, August 30, 6-7:30 p.m. Fun and ridiculous materials will be provided or bring your own. Use found objects, personal photographs and unusual 3D materials. Learn about the famous shadowbox “surrealist” Joseph Cornell.
