MILWAUKEE, WI – Pastors United, a non-profit organization founded in 2013 and comprised of over 350 faith, business and community leaders are hosting an Informational Educational Forum geared to the mid-term election on November 4, 2014 and to introduce candidates seeking political office the opportunity to meet some of the electorate they’ve never met.
The Informational Forum will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Wisconsin African American Women’s Center, 3020 W. Vliet Street in the City of Milwaukee from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Commenting on the number of co-sponsors of the Informational Forum, Minister Gregory Lewis, president of Pastor United, said:
“We’re definitely honored pleased and so many organizations are joining Pastors United, to put on this forum, despite their busy schedules.”
Lewis stated “Civic Engagement was one of the major platform issues the organization addresses. Moreover, Pastors United is dedicated to fostering civic engagement and participation amongst people of color and to assist in increasing voter turnout in the mid-term election.”
Minister Lewis said people of color must show up to the polls if they are to create a more representative democracy that looks like them and put individuals in office that fights for pay equity, greater access to health care, increased educational opportunities, fair play and other issues that affect them.”
Minister Lewis also said the mid-term election provides a rare opportunity for people of color to interact with candidates seeking public office and learn how they plan to address issues that are of concern to them.
This Informational Forum will allow the candidates who haven’t campaigned in the black community a chance to interact with the electorate to hear their concerns face-to-face with candidates who wish to represent every city, town, village or community in Wisconsin.
Minister Lewis concluded saying: “It will take every citizen doing their part to help raise awareness by reminding their friends, and neighbors in their community to go to the polls on Election Day.” Let’s do our part for the mid-term election and beyond.
