Courtney Renee Buckhanan crowned – Miss Debutante 2009
The Theme, “A strand of Cultured Pearls” defined the presentation of 20 debutantes at the Pfister Hotel on November 28, 2009.
The Cotillion Culminated nearly six months of service projects and preparation by the debutantes under the guidance of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The Cotillion is a Scholastic Program to Support academic achievement and community service.
Approximately 500 guests convened for the Saturday evening program lead by Dr. Dorothy Travis Moore, chair and co-chair Connie Cobb Madsen.
President Teresa A. Brown expressed and vice president Sandra Hubbard greetings and introductions. The program proceeded with recognition of Scholarship and Contributions Recipients by Florence Dukes and Beverly Conner. The Debutantes were announced by Erica Caldwell and Kim Sherrod. Each debutante presented a rose to her mother, a courtesy to her father/ presenter and received her escort.
Following a series of elegant dances to a music selection in dedication to Michael Jackson and Choreograph by Dr. Kathryn Gilbert the awards were given.
The Scholastic Achievement Awards was presented to Ebony Lynn Indigo Hollis.
The Community Service Award was presented of Courtney Renee Buckhanan.
Miss Congeniality Award was presented to A’Jeanette Krystell Gordon, Ria Chin-you, Miss Debutante 2008 shared memories.
The Royal Court was announced as Courtney Renee Buckhanan, Miss Debutante 2009; Ebony Lynn Indigo Hollis, First Runner Up; Maia Marie Easley, Second Runner Up; Aqueelah Atandare – Jones, Third Runner Up.
The list of outstanding youth included Debutantes Mariauna Sha’Ree Ambeau, LaRissa LueVelle Anthony, Iris Laren Blunt, Alexsis Michelle Conley- Brown, Kayla Davis, Shabre’ Ashley Green, Stephanie Antoinette Holt, Danquilla Nyesha Huckleberry, Ariel Chafon James, Dionna Nicole James – Jones, Brianna Renee Kendrick, Kiara Chonte Malone, Alexsis Nicole Sherard, Jasmine Ashley Williams and Arica Dynale Wolfe.
