Exhibit to be featured in Third Ward’s Gallery Night & Day
All month long, Milwaukee’s Habitat for Humanity ReStores are celebrating reuse and repurposing.
Now a pinnacle of Re- Store’s April celebrations, the 5th Annual Recycled Art Contest exhibit opened Tuesday at ReStore East (420 S. 1st, Milwaukee).
The contest challenges ReStore shoppers to create works of art or repurpose items using primarily ReStore product.
This year, in celebration of Milwaukee Habitat’s 30th Anniversary, the RAC had the theme of “community.”
The result is a gallery of one-of-a-kind creations as eclectic as ReStore’s inventory.
With over 30 entries to choose from, the works are judged by the public with polling stations in store and online at www.milwaukeerestore.org.
The top five vote getters will receive ReStore shopping sprees. As for the artists, they range from professionals like C. Kai Marquardt of Flowquest Design Build to group art classes from the Milwaukee Center for Independence.
Winners will be revealed on Saturday, April 19th at ReStore’s Earth Day Party at ReStore West (3015 N. 114th, Wauwatosa).
The entire gallery will also be featured in the Historic Third Ward’s Gallery Night & Day, April 25th & 26th at Restore East (420 S 1st, Milwaukee).
ReStore’s April Celebrations will conclude with a Donation Drive at Mayfair. On Saturday, April 26th from 10am until 2pm, Re- Store staff and volunteers will be in Macy’s Northeast lot at Mayfair ready to help community members with their spring cleaning.
ReStore will be collecting gently used home furnishings, improvement supplies and appliances to resell as well as clothing, shoes and electronics to recycle.
Donations will benefit Habitat’s mission of building homes, community and hope in Milwaukee.

About Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity
Since its founding in 1984, Milwaukee Habitat has built community by helping hardworking individuals become successful homeowners and advocates, believing that stable homes and families are the foundation for strong communities.
Working with volunteers and partner families, Milwaukee Habitat has built more than 530 houses in the City of Milwaukee, and has helped to serve over 1,200 families in developing countries.
In 2013, Milwaukee Habitat launched a multi-year Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative in Washington Park neighborhood, designed to reach 40 percent more families through new construction, home rehabs and repairs, and community improvement projects.
The Milwaukee Habitat ReStores are the social enterprise arm of Habitat, carrying new and gently used materials donated by manufacturers, stores, contractors and individuals.
The stores are open to the public and items are sold at a fraction of the retail cost.
All proceeds from the ReStores help fund Milwaukee Habitat’s local and international work.
Staffed largely by volunteers, ReStores offer an eco-friendly opportunity to both donate and shop for home building supplies and furnishings while also supporting Habitat’s mission.
The Milwaukee Habitat ReStore has two locations: ReStore East in Walkers Point (420 S 1st St, Milwaukee) and Re- Store West in Wauwatosa (3015 N 114th St).
