Congresswoman Gwendolyn Moore and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will join national advocates for the homeless at a testimonial event, program and buffet dinner honoring MacCanon Brown for her civic leadership on behalf of homeless and impoverished Milwaukeeans.
The event, called “A Celebration of Hope”, will be held at the Italian Community Center, Saturday, March 29, between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Attendance at the event is by invitation only.
Other participants in the program will include Michael Stoops, Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless in Washington D.C., and 90 year-old Vel Phillips, Milwaukee’s first alderwoman and African-American member of the city’s Common Council.
The occasion will also feature major announcements on upcoming new programs and initiatives serving Milwaukee’s homeless, as well as information on MacCanon Brown’s future plans in the community.
The event is being held by a group of citizens in recognition of MacCanon Brown’s leadership for 22 years as a homeless advocate and former co-founder and executive director of Repairers of the Breach in Milwaukee
