Forty-seven first time home buyer’s closed in 2013
Shirley Lowery has been at the helm of the First Time Homebuyer’s Program at Career Youth Development (CYD) for seventeen years.
She was hired by the late CEO Jeanetta Robinson and has always spearheaded CYD’s “love-inaction” motto.
CYD’s First Time Home Buyer’s Program has been in existence for twenty-five years and has touched hundreds of family’s lives by bringing home ownership to them.
Forty-seven homes were closed for purchase in Milwaukee in 2013 and so far this year, six families are moving into their own residence.
Shirley Lowery has developed strong partnerships with various banks and institutions over the years: US Bank, The Equitable Bank, BMO Harris Bank, Anchor Bank, North Shore Bank, Chase Bank, PNC Bank, Guaranteed Bank, and specific housing programs through HUD, City of Milwaukee Housing Resource, and Habitat for Humanity, Take Root Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Consortium.
Lowery said “CYD is truly a blessed to have all of the relationships that allow us to work with our lending and housing stakeholders; these groups want to see people in our community improve their good quality of life by owning their own home.”
Sam Overton, US Bank CRA Mortgage Loan Originator said, “it has been a pleasure to work with CYD in bringing home ownership to people in Milwaukee.”
Most recently Kierra Harris has joined the housing team at Career Youth Development and has brought her skills of bi-linguistics and now CYD is doing outreach to the Latino community, Kierra is bi-lingual in Spanish and prospective buyers who are Spanish speaking have a team player to assist them to become first time home buyers.
Kierra shared “I am excited about being a part of CYD and the First Time Home Buyer’s Program; it gives me an opportunity to give back to my community to make a difference.”
At CYD we will work with you to repair your credit, improve your financial literacy, build relationships with lenders and find about the best financing options.
CYD Chairman of the Board, Morris Brazil III said “for 43 years plus, CYD has been a change-maker for the good in people’s lives and this is just one of the great programs CYD has in place!”
CYD was founded by the Jeanetta Robinson and Mother Claretta Simpson in their home on N.10th Street in Milwaukee because there was a need to help their neighbors and community; today we are still serving and fulfilling the needs of the people through “love-inaction.”
