Milwaukee area residents were able to learn about the quickly approaching Affordable Healthcare Act as well as get one-on-one advice on bettering their finances at the Social Development Commission’s (SDC) Spring Job and Resource Fair.
Those valuable resources and many more were offered to the public at the daylong event held at Greater New Birth Church at 82nd and Silver Spring. The Job and Resource Fair allowed residents to meet face to face with case workers from the Milwaukee County Child Support office and from the Driver’s License Recovery Program. Also on hand were resources in the areas of Education, Job Training, Public Safety, Community Services, and Veteran’s Issues.
Presentations on the Affordable Healthcare Act were made by a staff person from the Wisconsin Division of Public Health. Residents learned about how they can sign up for the new federal healthcare program that begins in October as well as how they will be impacted. A representative from Greenpath provided credit reports for fair attendees as well as individualized counseling on financial matters. Free health checks were also provided by Greater New Birth Church’s Health and Well Being program.
The Spring Job and Resource Fair was presented by SDC and Greater New Birth Church. The annual project gathers many valuable services and programs in one location for the convenience of area residents. SDC plans to hold another Job and Resource Fair in early October in conjunction with the Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit.
