Event raises money, awareness about need for food, shelter in southeastern Wisconsin
Repairers of the Breach is one of 21 non profits participating in Match Day, a 24-hour online giving event designed to raise awareness and support for basic needs in southeastern Wisconsin.
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation is coordinating the event, which showcases 21 food and shelter agencies in southeastern Wisconsin. In 2012, the online event raised more than $1.8 million for 19 basic needs agencies.
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of people who participated in last year’s inaugural Match Day event,” said Ellen M. Gilligan, the Foundation’s president and CEO. “Knowing that the need remains for such critical services in southeastern Wisconsin and the capacity for giving continues to be so great in our community, we chose to once again sponsor Match Day.”
Each gift made online March 14, 2013 will be proportionately matched. The Greater Milwaukee Foundation and nearly 30 donors, including the Brewers Community Foundation, Faye McBeath Foundation and United Way of Greater Milwaukee have already pledged $750,000 toward the match pool. The Brewers Community Foundation and Time Warner Cable have generously contributed in-kind support and donor prizes.
For the second year, the Foundation has partnered with Razoo on Match Day. Based in Washington, D.C., Razoo is the world’s fastest-growing crowd funding site for causes.
“We are extremely appreciative to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the donor sponsors of the Match Day program for their continuing concern and support. Last year’s contribution of more than $40,000 helped sustain our programs and services in serving the homeless. With this year’s support we will continue our ministry of transforming lives,” said MacCanon Brown, Repairers of the Breach executive director.
