A cultural event in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther Kings, jr. and the work of the people during the Civil Rights Era.
Why: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man committed to peace, justice, and equality. He was also a faith filled man that emphasized the importance of determination to achieve freedom and human dignity. KingFest 2013 is an event that will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. A lot has changed since the days of the Civil Rights Era. Has the Dream been realized? And if so, what do we do now?
What: KingFest 2013 the Dream Realized…Now What is a cultural event that will feature traditional African Drumming, spoken word artists, vending by local business owners, scholarship presentations, remarks by Muhibb Dyer and the keynote address being delivered by world renown Dr. Iva Carruthers. Dr. Carruthers is the General Secretary of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference (SDPC), a national interdenominational organization within the African American faith tradition focused on social justice issues. KingFest2013 offers something for everyone; so bring the family.
