Community encouraged to use holiday as day of service in honor of Dr. King
WHAT: The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee (the Y) will host its 16th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast with presenting sponsor Harley-Davidson Motor Company at the Delta Center. Approximately 600 community and state leaders are expected to gather at the largest Dr. King Day event in the state of Wisconsin. Governor Scott Walker will provide welcome remarks.
WHEN: Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.
*program begins at 7:30 a.m.
WHERE: Delta Center, 400 W. Wisconsin, Ave., Milwaukee
WHY: Since the founding of the Central City Branch YMCA in 1929, the Milwaukee YMCA has maintained a strong presence in the African-American community. Today, the Northside YMCA center houses the YMCA Young Leaders Academy Charter School and a child care center. It was opened in 2002 and serves as a cornerstone of the YMCA’s commitment to Milwaukee’s central city.
