The 11th tax season for the Milwaukee Asset Building Coalition’s (MABC) free tax preparation service is officially under way.
Kickoff ceremonies were held at Goodwill Industries facility on N. 91st Street , one of the tax preparation sites for the coalition. SDC CEO Deborah Blanks reminded the public that in its first ten years of service, the program has returned more than $100-million in tax refunds and credits.
Sheila Siegel of the Internal Revenue Service, another of the MABC partners, discussed the Earned Income Tax Credit which is one of a number of credits MABC tax preparers look for in preparing tax forms. Other guest speakers at the Kickoff included Robert Wynn, President of Akamai LLC and a member of Asset Builders of America, and Alison Gilman Aquino, former FOX 6 anchor and reporter who now is a financial consultant for Edward Jones.
Area residents were able to get their taxes prepared and filed at the site. In addition, Wells Fargo was present to do free credit checks and Habitat for Humanity and State Farm Insurance offered tax filers information on their services.
The free tax prep sites of MABC will be open six days a week at locations throughout Milwaukee County.
