A pair of programs operated by the Social Development Commission (SDC) has gotten strong financial support from a number of private foundations that will allow them to serve area residents.
The SDC Senior Companion Program has been named recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Retirement Research Foundation and a $15,000 grant from the Faye McBeath Foundation. The two grants will be used to implement the Senior Companion Benefits Enrollment Program. That program educates older adults in Milwaukee County about low-income benefits for which they may be eligible and assists them with the enrollment process. Those benefits may include Medicare Part D Extra Help, Medicare Savings Plans, and FoodShare.
The Senior Companions Program is also funded in part by the Corporation for National Service and Community Service and by the State of Wisconsin.

SDC’s Youth and Family Development Program (YFDP) Art Therapy Program has been awarded a grant from the Charles E. Kubly Foundation, of $10,000. The grant will be used to pay for art supplies and the services of a certified art therapist to work with youth in art therapy projects. Those projects have been used successfully in the past with YFDP youth as a way to positively express themselves and better understand their personal emotions.
Both programs will be able to continue serving residents of Milwaukee County through the generosity of the Charles E. Kubly Foundation, Faye McBeth Foundation and the Retirement Research Foundation.
