Upsilon Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (R) is sponsoring its thirteenth annual AKA Family Fun Day. Teen fatherhood challenges will be addressed in a free symposium purposed to focus on teen fathers and their families on June 26th at the Parklawn YMCA, 4340 North Sherman Boulevard, from 10 AM until 3 PM. The forum, hosted by The Milwaukee Fatherhood Collaborative (MFC), Wisconsin Donor Network and Parklawn YMCA, will target fathers ages 13-25 and address child support, healthy relationships, employment and money management. The main objectives of the symposium are to focus on and provide solutions to common challenges faced by teen fathers.

Mayor Tom Barrett and Commissioner of Health Bevan K. Baker unveiled additional hard-hitting safe sleep campaign messages aimed to prevent further infant deaths in Milwaukee. After two reports last week of infants who died after sleeping in an unsafe sleep environment, Barrett and Baker held a news conference to announce the campaign.
“As a mayor and parent, I am sick to of hearing about another infant death, especially preventable deaths. No adult should sleep in bed with an infant.” Barrett stated.

The Hunger Task Force launched its seventh annual summer meals program this week an initiative that provides free meals to Milwaukee children in the summer months. The program has increase in popularity, from about 400,000 meals served in 2004 to 1.5 million meals last year. And this year, about 20 sites will expand the program to serve dinners as well, meaning organizers are expecting another jump in meals served.
