Milwaukee and Racine police are looking for information on two separate shootings last week involving young children. Laylah Petersen 5, of Milwaukee and Ja’Nyela Marsh-Highshaw 4, of Racine had their lives changed forever in two presumably random acts of senseless violence. On Thursday, November 6, at 6:00 p.m., Laylah was sitting on her grandfather’s lap reading when bullets were fired into the home and struck Laylah in the head; she died at the hospital, according to authorities.

Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn announced at a press conference July 24, after yet another shooting involving children in the city of Milwaukee, that there is going to be increased police presence in the area of 37th and Hadley Street.
According to Chief Flynn, the night of July 23, two children, a 10 and 11-yearold, were shot inside of a van.
Also riding in the van was their 25-year-old mother and seven children from the ages of two to 11. The driver was a 39-year-old male.
Milwaukee Police are investigating the shooting of an 11-year-old girl that happened on the playground of Clarke Street School located at 28th and Clarke Streets shortly before 7 p.m. on May 21.
Preliminary information suggests that two individuals were shooting at each other when the child was caught in the crossfire and shot.
The child was conveyed to Children’s Hospital where she in undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
There are no suspects in custody and we ask that anyone with information call Milwaukee Police at 414- 935-7360.

A quick stop into the grocery store last week turned into more than what one local man was looking for, when he found himself faced with a potentially life versus death scenario at a local Aldi store. The 6th District has witnessed three shootings in the past week within our neighborhoods and two of the cases, the shootings at 3244 N. 9th St. and 3043 N. Buffum St., still have no suspect in custody. These two shootings have resulted in the deaths of the victims and on Tuesday, the homicides occurred within eight hours of one another.
