Former State Rep. Jason Fields of Milwaukee was awarded the 2012 Wisconsin Financial Literacy Award by Governor Scott Walker in a ceremony at the State Capitol on March 1. Fields was one of 21 recipients of the award, which was given by the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy. Governor Walker saluted the recipients for “excelling in their efforts to improve the financial knowledge and well-being of the people of Wisconsin. Wisconsin State Superintendent Tony Evers, PhD served as keynote speaker at the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM)’s 2012 Student Recognition Awards, held June 11, 2012 at the HACM Community Services building, 650 W. Reservoir.
The annual event recognized educational excellence among public housing youth who participate in the HACM Education Initiative. Founded in 2004, the Initiative now works with over 360 youth in the Highland Homes and Scattered Sites developments to keep them in school and help them graduate.
