12 January 2013

On Saturday January 19 for the 25th year of Milwaukee’s first of four Gallery Night/Day celebrations, the Terry McCormick Gallery of Contemporary Fine and Folk Art continues the successful showing of Blanche Brown: Celebrate Obama–Forward America Exhibition & Sale with a reception from 1:00 pm through 5 pm. The Terry McCormick Gallery of Contemporary Fine and Folk Art will again hosts Blanche Brown: Celebrate Obama–Forward America Exhibition & Sale. Brown, a devoted volunteer for President Barack Obama’s re – election campaign, stated, “I really wanted to be in Washington, on January 20, because of my pride and excitement surrounding President Obama’s second Presidential Inauguration as our nation’s first Black president. This historical month also includes the birth date celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who is honored with a national federal holiday.”

Instead, armed with enthusiasm, Brown honors this historical time with her artwork, on Gallery Day, January 19. Her colorful, symbolic multilayered collages depicting the unrelenting political, social, economic, psychological, and chaotic drama surrounding President Obama’s first term in office proved to be a hit with gallery patrons at her initial December, 2012 opening.

Even though eager patrons purchased many pieces, a selection of specially priced “Obama” collages are available along with other styles. One patron, delaying her selection, even said at the end of the December reception, “I want to support Blanche and all her pieces are beautiful. Here is my payment for a piece of artwork. I will come back when I can reach a firm decision.”

Blanche Brown: Celebrate Obama–Forward America Exhibition & Sale is being continued with a reception from 1:00pm through 5 pm on Gallery Day, Saturday, January 19. It is free and open to the public with other times by appointment only. The location is 2522 North 18th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Please call 414.264.6766 for questions.
