Calvary celebrates annual worship service in jazz, dance and song

24 July 2010 Please wait No Comment

The Music and Fine Arts Ministry of Calvary Baptist Church once again presents its annual Worship Service in Praise – “Armed in the Blessings of the Lord”, based upon Ephesians 6:10-17, during its regular 7:45 & 10:45 am Services on Sunday, July 25 . The church is located at 2959 N. Teutonia Avenue, and is wheel-chair accessible.

The Service in Praise will consist of songs, dances, spoken word pieces and drama, augmented by the Sermon, presented by the Rev. Dr. John R. Walton, Jr., Calvary’s Senior Pastor. The Service in Praise originally began as the, “Worship Service in Song”, around 1983, when Judith M. Baity was the Directress of Music Ministries. Ms. Baity said, “I thought it would be a welcome change in our service and there were some real special numbers that we could use…” Calvary has consistently found “real special numbers” each year.

Bev Njuguna, Judy’s successor, has carried on Ms. Baity’s vision and enhanced the service to include dance, drama and spoken word pieces. In the past there have been many local and nationally known artists, including Berkeley Fudge and Larry Moore, saxophonists; the late Neal Tate, nationally known composer and arranger; former County Supervisor, James White, Minister/Percussionist; Rev. Wilbur Baker, Jr., Organist; Krislyn World Heil, Dancer, recently appearing in Milwaukee with the Alvin Ailey Dancers and other diverse and excellent artists.

The 2010 Service, under the leadership of Fine Arts Coordinator, Patrice Bishop-Wise, and Enoch Boyd, President of Calvary’s Voices of Praise, will admonish Christians to be ready for battle at all times, and to make sure that everyone knows how important it is to keep on the Armor of the Lord. Calvary – at 115 years of age, is a multi-generational and diverse church. This diversity will be showcased during the Worship Services.

Calvary invites the entire community to join them in Worship on July 25th at one or both services. For more info, call the church at (414)372- 1450, Mon-Fri, 8:00 – 4:30.
