Actor William Shatner

William Shatner was presented a lifetime achievement award at the Banff World Television Festival. The festival took place June 13 thru 16, 2010 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies in Alberta , Canada. Attorney Michael F. Hupy and his family were on vacation at the hotel when Shatner received his award. Hupy met with Shatner and his wife before the award was presented.

The Banff World Television Festival features an annual competition that judges television content creation and provides a forum for business and creative opportunities for television and new media industry professionals.

This is the first time that Banff World Television Awards partnered with Next MEDIA Banff to bring together the television and digital media communities. The festival combined a prestigious international television program competition with a conference agenda.

The global competition covered five categories; Children, Family and Youth; Entertainment; Documentaries; Drama and Interactive honoring excellence in international television while providing a marketplace for the exchange of ideas and the development of new business relationships.

The conference was a series of seminars, keynote speakers and networking opportunities offering a cross-platform that reflects the growing interactive partnership between television and digital media allowing industry members to discuss issues and challenges they are currently facing in the business today.

Shatner, 79, a Canadian born actor has starred in numerous television roles, gaining worldwide fame for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk on the USS Enterprise in the science fiction television series Star Trek. He played a veteran police sergeant on T. J. Hooker and most recently, the wacky Attorney Denny Crane on Boston Legal. Shatner has won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Award. His body of work as an actor, musician, author, producer, director and celebrity pitchman has earned him a lifetime achievement award of excellence.
