Join the Milwaukee County Board’s African-American Caucus for a special Black History Month Celebration Wednesday, February 24th from noon until 2 p.m. at the Milwaukee County Courthouse Rotunda. The celebration includes honoree recognition, soul food, refreshments, entertainment and fellowship.

“Keep on Pushing… Toward Black Economic Empowerment,” is the theme for this year’s celebration, which includes a libation performed by Clayborn Benson, musical entertainment, and spoken word from Nigel Ward. Kelli Watson from CBS 58 News will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

Board Chairman Lee Holloway is enthusiastic about this year’s celebration. “This is a great opportunity for Courthouse visitors to celebrate Black History Month and learn more about African- American heritage,” Chairman Holloway said.

“This month’s program inspires all of us to achieve even greater heights in Milwaukee County,” Supervisor Elizabeth M. Coggs said. “I am pleased with the support we’re getting from County Supervisors, our workforce and the community at large.”

The County Board officially kicked off Black History Month at the County Board meeting on February 4th. The meeting began with an invocation from Pastor Bruce Dyson and a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” from County Board Committee Clerk Linda Durham. County Supervisors and County Board staff also participated in a black history window-decorating contest within the County Board offices. There is also a display of African-American artifacts on display in the County Board lobby for the entire month of February.

The County Board’s Black Caucus includes Chairman Holloway, along with Supervisors Coggs, Michael Mayo, Sr., Willie Johnson, Jr., Toni Clark, and Johnny L. Thomas. During the ceremony, these Supervisors will recognize and pay tribute to African-American members of the community who have made a difference in Milwaukee County.
