Nonprofit center hosts Holiday Celebration of Diversity

28 November 2009

The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee will host the 15th annual “Spirit of the Nonprofit Sector: Holiday Celebration of Diversity” Thurs., Dec. 3, 5:30-8:30 p.m., at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago.

Featuring music, traditional foods, artists and displays, the event showcases Milwaukee’s rich tapestry of cultural diversity, including the traditions of Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas and New Year.

Artists, vendors and representatives of local nonprofits will share their talents and offer handcrafted gifts for sale.

Entertainment includes Repairers of the Breach Homeless Choir, Berkeley Fudge Quartet, Ton Ko-Thi Children’s Dance Ensemble, Trinity Academy of Irish Dance, Music Makers Strolling Strings of Wisconsin, and the Bruce- Guadalupe Middle School Jazz Band.

Tickets are $25 each, $40 for two, and $7 for children 12 and under. All proceeds support training and technical assistance for nonprofit agencies in the Greater Milwaukee area. To make reservations, call (414) 344-3933.

“Our community receives much of its texture and color by the contributions nonprofits make to the quality of life,” said Leigh Kunde, executive director of the Nonprofit Center. “The Nonprofit Center has worked to build the sector’s identity as important and distinct in the social and economic fiber of the community.”

Major sponsors of the event are: Assurant Health, Harley- Davidson, Morgan Stanley, Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, Stivers Staffing, We Energies, Willis HRH, and WPS Health Insurance.

The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, Inc. was founded in 1967. With more than 400 nonprofit agency members, the Center’s mission is to promote the interests and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector through strengthening organizational capacity, expanding volunteerism and encouraging collaboration.
